Thermostat blanking sleeve
I have an MPi which has a supercharger fitted, but its running slightly too hot (temp guage at approx 3/4) when driving faster than about 60mph. All the obvious thing have been done (thorough coolant flush, has a new rad fitted, new expansion tank + cap, new water pump, changed thermostat for 74'C one) Its fine driving round town (hovers about 1/3 of the way up the guage). Water/coolant is clear without any trace of oil, rust etc. The car has a 13-row oil cooler fitted also.
I was considering removing the thermostat to increase coolant flow to see if that helped, but am unsure as to whether I need to fit the thermostat balnking sleeve, as I know the MPi coolant flow system is different to older cars, and I couldn't really see from the design of it how it would affect flow in my head.
Can someone confirm for me whether or not i do need to fit the blanking sleeve?
Cheers
Chris

Good afternoon,
I would recommend refitting an 88 degree thermostat as the MPI ECU will run better and more leanly around 90 - 100 degrees.
Have you replaced the temperature sender as these tend to fault.

engine oil cooler
Hi, I got an oil radiator to cool off the engine since here the climate is verry hot and my car gets to 100C. I did everything in regards to the water cooling including removing the head and cleaning all the water passages (even though they were allready clean). 1. replaced the thermostat, and after that replaced with the blanking sleeve. 2. replaced the radiator with a 2 core radiator. 3. added a heavy duty electric fan 4. replaced all water hoses The last resort is the oil cooler which should do the trick (did so with my friends cars). the only problem I have is where to place it. its a small 5 rails cooler and shoul fit easily but there is allway something there in the way (starter, distributor, alternator etc.) so if anyone here with experience in this could help me it would be a great relief. if you have pictures to make it even clearer then thats even better. Thanks

Over Heating
If you remove the thermostat then you should fit a blanking sleeve. But is your thermostat working correctly anyway?
Strange how it overheats at speed, most Minis would overheat whilst sitting in traffic for some time.
It could be that you have an air-lock in your system, so try starting the car with the radiator cap off and then replace the cap once the water/anti-freeze mix has started to bubble over. This trick will usually sort the air-lock.
Is your fan fitted the right way around too?

Water Temp. Gage
Hi All
I have a strange problem in my 1000 Mini 1994 , the water temp. Gage will be on the N mark or little above if the car is on , and when I drive the car , it will reach near to H , but there will not be any over heat in the engine as i can open the radiator cover with no pressure , and can feel that the engine is not so hot .
The oil temp. Gage which i fixed will be showing 70-75 C ,
I changed the water Gage & sender unit & remove the thermostat putting the blanking sleeve but the same problem ! also I'm using the metal fan blade .
What would be the problem ?
